Alexis Andrade, LMHCA

Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate & Doctoral Candidate | Newport, RI

Sometimes what looks like a behavior problem, lack of motivation, or “not trying hard enough” is a sign that something underneath needs to be better understood. If you or your child is struggling with ADHD, autism, big emotions, executive functioning, anxiety, or everyday demands that seem harder than they should, therapy can help make sense of what’s getting in the way and build more workable ways of navigating everyday life.

My Approach

I’m Alexis, a licensed mental health counselor associate and doctoral candidate in developmental psychology based in Newport, Rhode Island. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families navigating ADHD, autism and neurodevelopmental differences, executive-functioning challenges, emotional regulation, anxiety, and behavioral concerns. My approach is collaborative, practical, and developmentally informed. Rather than focusing only on the behavior we can see, I’m interested in understanding what may be driving it, what skills or supports may be missing, and how we can make everyday life work better.

Therapy with me is warm, active, and individualized. Depending on your age and needs, sessions might include conversation and reflection, CBT strategies, emotional-regulation skills, executive-functioning supports, visual tools, games, or hands-on activities. I also draw from DBT-informed skills, motivational interviewing, and behavioral approaches. My goal is for therapy to feel human rather than overly clinical and for you to leave with strategies you can actually use outside the therapy room.

I especially enjoy working with parents and caregivers. Parenting a child who experiences the world differently can be exhausting and confusing, and therapy isn’t about telling you what you’re doing wrong. We’ll work as a team to better understand your child’s needs, recognize their strengths, and develop realistic strategies that can carry over into home, school, relationships, and daily routines.

My background in neuroscience, developmental psychology, and neurodevelopmental care shapes the way I understand the connection between development, executive functioning, emotion, learning, and behavior. Before joining Serenity Integrative Counseling, my clinical experience included Bradley Hospital’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities, behavioral and community-based services, hospital settings, and outpatient psychotherapy. I’m currently pursuing my PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Developmental Psychology.

I work with children, adolescents, young adults, and parents, both in person at our Newport, RI office and via telehealth across Rhode Island.

My approach includes: CBT | DBT | Motivational Interviewing | Developmentally Appropriate Skill Tasks

I hold: M.S, Medical Science (Southern California University), PhD candidate, Psychology with a specialization in Developmental Psychology

Licensed in Rhode Island: MHC00552-A. Currently accepting new clients in person and via telehealth.
